Clearwater Analytics, LLC is building and evolving web product design systems that help teams design faster, ship more consistently, and keep UI quality aligned across Figma and production code. This onsite role in Boise, ID 83702 brings hands‑on UI/UX craft to design system strategy and implementation, with direct responsibility for components, tokens, and the workflows that drive adoption.
What you’ll do
- Help shape the vision, roadmap, and governance for Clearwater’s design system across all web products.
- Design and build core components, patterns, and design tokens by working in both Figma and code, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and component frameworks such as React.
- Own the Figma-to-Storybook workflow so components, variants, and documentation stay synchronized between design and what engineering builds and documents.
- Partner with engineering to build and maintain the design system token pipeline (for example, Style Dictionary or similar) and a shared component library with clean mapping from design to code.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code to accelerate component development, prototyping, and design-to-code handoff.
- Contribute to making the design system machine-consumable through structured component specs, tokens, and documentation that AI coding tools can use directly (including an MCP-style integration example), supporting on‑brand UI generation without relying only on review.
- Help implement guardrails and validation including audits, evaluation criteria, and automated checks to prevent off‑system or off‑brand output from AI‑assisted or non‑designer contributors at scale.
- Help define and evolve design system standards, documentation, and contribution guidelines to support adoption across distributed product teams.
- Drive design system adoption by identifying gaps and prioritizing new components or patterns based on real product needs.
- Mentor and support designers and engineers who contribute to or consume the system, raising the bar on visual and interaction craft.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Visual, Interaction, and Engineering teams to ensure the system supports dense, data‑heavy enterprise workflows such as tables, dashboards, reporting, and complex forms.
- Support accessibility standards (WCAG) as a built‑in property of each component rather than an afterthought.
- Present design systems progress and strategy to senior stakeholders, including the VP, Head of UX, and engineering leadership.
- Track and report design system health, including adoption rate, component coverage, contribution velocity, and design/engineering consistency.
What you bring
- 5+ years of experience in product/UX/UI design, including 2+ years working on design systems at scale.
- Proven hands‑on experience designing and deploying a production design system end‑to‑end, from the Figma library and tokens through shipped code (design‑only or theoretical work is not sufficient).
- Strong UI development skills with proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, plus comfort contributing to or pairing on component‑based front‑end code (for example, React).
- Proficiency with Claude Code or similar AI‑assisted coding tools for faster component development and design‑to‑code workflows.
- Experience making a design system consumable by non‑designers or AI tooling using structured documentation and integrations such as APIs/MCPs, not only human‑facing libraries.
- Hands‑on experience building and maintaining a Figma-to-Storybook (or equivalent) pipeline that keeps design and code in sync.
- Advanced Figma skills including variables/tokens, component architecture, auto layout, and prototyping.
- Strong visual design craft across typography, layout, color, spacing, and interaction states, specifically applied to dense enterprise B2B interfaces.
- Solid understanding of design token tooling and how tokens flow from design into production code.
- Strong accessibility fundamentals and the ability to encode them into reusable components aligned to WCAG.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including presenting design work and design systems progress to cross‑functional partners and leadership.
- A portfolio showing both design systems thinking and shipped, production UI, not only visual or marketing work.
