Job summary

Neuralink in San Francisco is seeking a UI Design Engineer to join the BCI Applications Team. You will design and ship novel computing interfaces that enable people with paralysis to interact with devices via thought, from concept through iterative release.

You will collaborate with neuroscience, machine learning, and implant engineering teams to understand constraints and craft interfaces with appropriate fidelity and fluidity, testing with study participants to refine the experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Portfolio showing end-to-end design and shipping experience from concept through prototyping to release.
  • Proficiency in Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, UIKit/AppKit, and/or Metal) or an equivalent transferable stack (React, Three.js, WebGPU).
  • Familiarity with Objective-C, C, and/or C++.
  • An intuitive sense for appropriate fidelity at each stage of the design process.
  • Ability to empathize with and design for people whose sensory experience differs from your own.
  • A strong point of view combined with a willingness to test, delete, and learn from ideas that do not work.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, build, and ship novel computing interfaces for BCI from initial concept through to iterative release.
  • Work directly with study participants to test and refine interfaces based on real-world use.
  • Collaborate with domain experts in neuroscience, machine learning, and implant engineering to understand constraints and design within them.
  • Determine the right level of fidelity for each stage of exploration, from conversation to rough sketch to testable prototype.
  • Pursue and rigorously test design hunches, including writing highly optimized vertex shaders or custom property animators when needed to achieve fluidity and detail.

Job description

# UI Design EngineerNeuralink, San Francisco, USAHealthcare## Why this work mattersNeuralink's brain-computer interface technology enables people with severe paralysis to control computers and devices using thought alone, with the potential to restore movement, communication, and independence.View the full listing and apply →Listed 19 Oct 2026Applications are handled by Neuralink, not by Hard Problems.## About NeuralinkNeuralink is a neurotechnology company building a generalized input/output platform for the brain. Its core technology is an implantable brain-computer interface (BCI) with ultra-thin, flexible electrode threads placed by a surgical robot, enabling high-bandwidth, bidirectional interaction with neural signals. The company has received multiple FDA Breakthrough Device designations and is conducting clinical trials globally, with participants using the implant to control computers, smartphones, robotic arms, wheelchairs, and to translate thought into speech and text. Neuralink employs 201-500 people and is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.### The roleThe UI Design Engineer sits within the BCI Applications Team, which is responsible for building Telepathy.app — software that enables people with paralysis to use computing devices with precision and ease via thought alone. The team spans neuroscience, machine learning, software engineering, and interface design. This role focuses on designing and shipping novel computing interfaces tailored specifically for BCI, a medium without the traditional sensory feedback of physical input devices.### What you would do* Design, prototype, build, and ship novel computing interfaces for BCI from initial concept through to iterative release* Work directly with study participants to test and refine interfaces based on real-world use* Collaborate with domain experts in neuroscience, machine learning, and implant engineering to understand constraints (neural structure, model architecture, radio bandwidth, and more) and design within them* Determine the right level of fidelity for each stage of exploration, whether that is a conversation, a rough sketch, or a testable prototype* Pursue and rigorously test design hunches, including writing highly optimized vertex shaders or custom property animators when needed to achieve the desired fluidity and detail### What they are looking for* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent experience* A portfolio showing end-to-end design and shipping experience, from initial conceptualization through prototyping to release and iteration* Proficiency in Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, UIKit/AppKit, and/or Metal) or an equivalent transferable stack (React, Three.js, WebGPU)* Familiarity with Objective-C, C, and/or C++* An intuitive sense for appropriate fidelity at each stage of the design process* Ability to empathize with and design for people whose sensory experience differs from your own* A strong point of view combined with a willingness to test, delete, and learn from ideas that do not work### Working arrangementsThis is a full-time, on-site role based in San Francisco, CA.### Pay and benefitsThe anticipated base salary range is $135,000 - $281,000 USD, with the actual figure determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base salary, Neuralink offers equity compensation in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) for all full-time employees. Other benefits include excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance (PPO plan), paid holidays, commuter benefits, meals provided, a 401(k) plan, parental leave, and flexible time off.## DetailsLocation: San Francisco, USASalary: $135,000 - $281,000Sector: HealthcareRole: Product designSeniority: GeneralOrganisation: For-profitThis job is listed on the Hard Problems job board, but details come from the employer’s own listing and may have changed — always check the original posting.
