Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center is seeking a Sterile Processing support team member to assist the SPD and OR areas. The role includes cleaning Autoclaves, organizing sterile instruments, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in both SPD and OR environments.

Responsibilities include inventory assistance, processing instruments between cases, and ensuring proper labeling and disposal of items. The job requires color discernment, lifting, and adaptability in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Cleans Autoclaves in Sterile Processing and Operating Room areas.
• Places unused sterile instrumentation and soft goods back in the appropriate location after the Operating Room.
• Cleans washers, cart washer, dryers, shelving and other equipment per Manufacturers recommendations and policy.
• Cleans and organizes Sterile Processing areas as assigned.
• Assists in inventory control, obtaining supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical cases.
• Removes out-of-date items and records; discards or reprocesses per guidelines; able to discern colors.
• Monitors supply levels (cast cart, trauma cart, suture packs) by color identification.
• Maintains a clean, sanitary, safe environment in SPD and OR.
• Keeps equipment and supplies in designated areas orderly.
• Processes instruments between cases; washes and sterilizes by heat or cold methods.
• Prepares cleaning and lubricating solutions for decontamination.
• Operates washer/sterilizer and related equipment in OR and SPD.
• Wraps instruments for sterilization with correct labeling color.
• Processes OR linen and sterile packs.
• Ensures hallways are clear to facilitate transport of equipment.
• Cleans work areas for next shift.
• Cleans scrub sinks and maintains hand-washing supplies.
• Documents activities to support departmental operations.
• Performs clerical tasks and phones as directed by supervision.
• Runs errands as needed.

10. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of various equipment and supplies in designated areas.

11. Processes instruments between cases (wash and sterilize by heat or cold sterilization) as the need arises.

12. Prepares various cleaning and lubricating solutions used in the decontamination of instruments, equipment, and rooms.

13. Operates washer/sterilizer, or flash sterilizer, and various other cleaning apparatus in the OR and Sterile Processing properly.

14. Wraps instruments and supplies for sterilization labeling appropriately labeling appropriately with color appropriate labels.

15. Processes OR linen and sterile packs.

16. Monitors halls keeping them free of extra equipment allowing for easy equipment transportation.

17. Cleans and prepares work area for next shift.

18. Cleans the scrub sinks in the OR and helps to assure the hand washing supplies are readied for use.

19. Documents appropriately to foster the work of the department.

20. Assists Sterile Processing team by performing tasks such as answering telephone, and minor clerical duties in the designated area monitored by supervision.

21. Runs errands as directed in a timely manner.
