Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center is seeking a Sterile Processing support team member to assist in SPD and OR environments. You will help clean, organize, and sterilize instruments, manage inventory, and ensure proper labeling and color-coding of supplies.

The role requires a HS diploma and certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire. You’ll work in a hospital setting with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Cleans Autoclaves in Sterile Processing and Operating Room areas.
• Returns unused sterile instrumentation and soft goods to the correct location after OR use.
• Cleans washers, cart washers, dryers, shelving and related equipment per policy.
• Maintains clean and organized Sterile Processing areas.
• Assists in inventory control and obtaining supplies and instruments for cases.
• Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses per guidelines; colors must be discerned.
• Monitors supply color-coding (et. cast cart, trauma cart, suture packs).
• Maintains a clean, sanitary environment in SPD and OR.
• Processes instruments between cases (wash and sterilize).
• Prepares cleaning solutions used in decontamination.
• Operates washer/sterilizer and other sterilization equipment.
• Wraps and labels instruments and supplies with color-coded labels.
• Processes OR linen and sterile packs.
• Keeps halls clear to allow easy transport of equipment.
• Cleans and prepares work area for next shift.
• Cleans scrub sinks and ensures hand-washing supplies are ready.
• Documents activities to support department workflow.
• Assists team with phones and minor clerical duties.
• Runs errands as directed.

Assists in maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe environment in both SPD and OR.10. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of various equipment and supplies in designated areas.11. Processes instruments between cases (wash and sterilize by heat or cold sterilization) as the need arises.12. Prepares various cleaning and lubricating solutions used in the decontamination of instruments, equipment, and rooms.13. Operates washer/sterilizer, or flash sterilizer, and various other cleaning apparatus in the OR and Sterile Processing properly.14. Wraps instruments and supplies for sterilization labeling appropriately labeling appropriately with color appropriate labels.15. Processes OR linen and sterile packs.16. Monitors halls keeping them free of extra equipment allowing for easy equipment transportation.17. Cleans and prepares work area for next shift.18. Cleans the scrub sinks in the OR and helps to assure the hand washing supplies are readied for use.19. Documents appropriately to foster the work of the department.20. Assists Sterile Processing team by performing tasks such as answering telephone, and minor clerical duties in the designated area monitored by supervision.21.
