Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking an Underground Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Operator under the UG Projects Manager/UG Mine Manager. You will ensure safe, efficient operation of water treatment systems, manage chemical handling, monitor water and slurry flows, and maintain records.

This role requires underground work, equipment operation, and a 7 on/7 off shift rotation. You will be responsible for inspections, data collection, and reporting, with emphasis on safety and environmental

Qualifications

• Experience with water treatment processes and safety protocols.
• Ability to read and follow operating procedures and logs.
• Familiarity with monitoring/control systems (HMI) and basic instrumentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment and ensure compliance with environmental limits.
• Prepare reports, logs, and test data; track chemical and equipment usage.
• Safely handle chemicals and manage water/slurry balance.
• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of the treatment plant.
• Perform mechanical tasks; operate small loaders, forklifts, skid steers, and dozers as needed.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections and equipment pre-ops.
• Identify and report safety and environmental concerns.
• Work with limited supervision; advise supervisor on unusual issues.
• Suggest policy/procedure improvements for the department.
• Underground work; install flow meters for water management.
• Willing to rotate 7 on, 7 off (day/night shifts).

Job description

Under the general supervision of the UG Projects Manager / UG Mine Manager the Underground Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Operator will ensure safe and efficient operation of various processing equipment including but not limited to water treatment systems, solution balance, sample collection, data recording, retrieval of sample data, proper handling of potentially hazardous chemicals, monitoring/controlling water and slurry flows, reagent addition, pumps, valves, piping and other equipment, making calculations and adjustments as needed to maintain operating parameters within limits. Inspect and check all other components of operating systems and equipment regularly.

Job Responsibilities

Contribute to and carry out a variety of tasks including but not limited to:

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits, and adherence to Company policies and standards
• Prepare reports and maintain meter reading logs, chemical and equipment usage, recordkeeping, and system testing as required
• Ability to safely work with a variety of chemicals including but not limited to flocculent, coagulant, etc
• Clean and maintain treatment plant, responsible for maintaining housekeeping standards
• Perform mechanical tasks as needed within the scope of training and skills
• May be required to operate small front-end loaders, forklifts, skid steer loaders, and dozers
• Responsible for pre-shift inspections, equipment pre-ops, etc
• Report and address safety and environmental concerns
• Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. Has appreciable latitude for unsupervised action or decision
• Recommends changes to policies and procedures that affect immediate department
• Will be required to go Underground, and is responsible for installing various flow meters to help with water management
• Willing to work a rotational 7 on 7 off schedule (Day Shift / Night Shift)

Education and Experience

• Clarification (circular clarifier) experience preferred
• Oil Water separation experience preferred
• Sludge dewatering (Geobags) experience preferred
• Ability to walk over rough terrain as well as climb stairways, catwalks, liner and pads
• Ability to complete general labor including but not limited to shoveling, and lifting up to 50lbs
• Required to work underground, on elevated platforms, and in adverse weather conditions
• Proficiency in using monitoring and control systems (human machine interface)
• Strong mechanical aptitude preferred
• Previous experience operating front-end loaders, dozers, and lifting equipment is preferred
• Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
• General understanding of mining operations preferred
• Basic computer and technology skills required
