Jerritt Canyon is seeking an Underground Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Supervisor to lead safe, efficient, and reliable E&I activities in an underground mining operation in Nevada. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Technology or related field preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician license preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive electrical/instrumentation experience.
  • 2+ years supervisory experience.
  • Experience with underground mining electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of motor controls, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, switchgear, PLCs.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Underground Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable execution of electrical, instrumentation, and control-system activities within an underground mining operation. This role provides hands-on leadership to E&I trades personnel and contractors, ensuring work is completed in accordance with mine safety regulations, electrical codes, engineering standards, site procedures, and production requirements.

The Underground E&I Supervisor works closely with Mine Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, and contractors to plan and execute installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and repair activities associated with underground electrical and instrumentation systems.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily underground electrical and instrumentation maintenance, installation, and repair activities.
  • Lead E&I crews, electricians, instrumentation technicians, contractors, and other field personnel.
  • Plan and coordinate work assignments based on production requirements, maintenance priorities, and available resources.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable mine safety regulations, electrical codes, company policies, and site procedures.
  • Conduct and participate in pre-shift meetings, toolbox talks, job hazard analyses, and safety inspections.
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout, isolation, grounding, and electrical safe-work practices are followed.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and oversee repairs to underground electrical distribution systems, motors, controls, PLCs, instrumentation, communication systems, and related equipment.
  • Supervise installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Support installation and maintenance of underground power distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motor starters, VFDs, lighting, pumps, ventilation systems, and other mine infrastructure.
  • Oversee instrumentation and control systems, including sensors, transmitters, process controls, monitoring systems, and PLC-based equipment.
  • Review electrical drawings, schematics, one-lines, control diagrams, and equipment documentation to support field activities.
  • Coordinate with engineering and maintenance personnel on equipment modifications, system upgrades, and capital projects.
  • Monitor work quality and verify installations and repairs meet design specifications and applicable standards.
  • Manage contractors and subcontractors performing E&I work underground.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and documentation.
  • Assist with planning manpower, materials, tools, equipment, and spare parts required for scheduled and unscheduled work.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend improvements to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure personnel are properly trained, qualified, and authorized to perform assigned electrical and instrumentation work.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop E&I personnel while promoting a strong safety and accountability culture.
  • Respond to underground electrical and instrumentation emergencies and production-critical equipment failures as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Superintendent, or Mine Operations leadership.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical diploma, associate degree, or other post-secondary education in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation & Controls, Industrial Electrical, Electronics, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent recognized electrical qualification strongly preferred; requirements may vary based on jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of progressive electrical and/or instrumentation experience, preferably in an underground mining, heavy industrial, or mineral processing environment.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience overseeing electrical, instrumentation, or maintenance crews preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with underground mining electrical systems and equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, switchgear, PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and control-system faults using electrical drawings, schematics, test equipment, and diagnostic tools.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, mining regulations, and safe electrical work practices.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs is preferred.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, wiring diagrams, control schematics, instrumentation drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead crews in a demanding underground work environment.
