Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Underground Maintenance General Supervisor is responsible for providing overall leadership, direction, and technical oversight for underground mobile and fixed-plant maintenance activities. This position ensures that maintenance operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production requirements, mine plans, regulatory requirements, and company standards.

The General Supervisor leads a multidisciplinary maintenance team and is accountable for equipment availability, maintenance execution, workforce performance, cost control, planning, and continuous improvement. The role works closely with Mining Operations, Engineering, Planning, Reliability, Supply Chain, and Health & Safety to ensure reliable and sustainable underground production.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for underground maintenance teams, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other maintenance disciplines as applicable.
  • Direct maintenance activities for underground mobile equipment, production equipment, utility equipment, fixed infrastructure, and associated systems.
  • Ensure planned, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs are executed effectively.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities based on safety, production requirements, equipment criticality, and available resources.
  • Monitor equipment availability, reliability, utilization, downtime, and maintenance performance.
  • Ensure equipment defects and deficiencies are identified, documented, prioritized, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with underground production to minimize operational disruption.
  • Provide technical and operational guidance to frontline supervisors, tradespeople, and contractors.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Planning and Reliability teams to develop and execute weekly, monthly, and longer-term maintenance plans.
  • Ensure maintenance work is properly scoped, scheduled, resourced, and executed.
  • Review backlog, deferred maintenance, outstanding work orders, and equipment condition to establish priorities.
  • Ensure maintenance work orders, inspections, equipment histories, and other records are completed accurately.
  • Coordinate planned equipment shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
  • Identify emerging equipment risks and develop mitigation plans before failures impact production or safety.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop maintenance supervisors, tradespeople, apprentices, technicians, and contractors.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and conduct.
  • Manage workforce allocation, shift coverage, overtime, and contractor resources.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, competency development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Develop frontline leadership capability and encourage employee participation in continuous improvement initiatives.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive maintenance experience, preferably within underground mining or a similarly heavy industrial environment.
