Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Underground Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining safe, efficient, and executable maintenance plans for underground electrical, instrumentation, and associated control systems within a mining operation.

This role works closely with Maintenance, Electrical & Instrumentation, Operations, Engineering, Reliability, and Supply Chain teams to ensure planned work is properly scoped, resourced, scheduled, and executed with minimal impact to production. The E&I Planner will support both routine and corrective maintenance as well as major shutdowns, projects, and improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed, job-ready maintenance work packages for underground electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems.
  • Plan preventive, predictive, corrective, and statutory maintenance activities in accordance with site maintenance strategies and priorities.
  • Review work requests and field conditions to determine job scope, labor requirements, materials, tools, equipment, permits, and specialized services.
  • Develop accurate job plans, task lists, estimates, work instructions, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Instrumentation, Operations, Engineering, Reliability, and Mine Technical Services teams to ensure work is properly prioritized and executable.
  • Plan maintenance activities associated with underground electrical distribution systems, motors, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, pumps, fixed plant, mobile equipment interfaces, instrumentation, control systems, communications, and related infrastructure.
  • Ensure planned work complies with applicable mining regulations, electrical standards, site procedures, isolation/LOTO requirements, and safety-critical controls.
  • Conduct field inspections and job walkdowns to validate scope, identify hazards, confirm equipment condition, and improve plan quality.
  • Identify required spare parts, consumables, tools, lifting equipment, access equipment, and contractor resources; coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure materials are available before scheduling.
  • Develop realistic labor-hour estimates and identify appropriate skill requirements for each work package.
  • Coordinate planned work with production schedules, mine access requirements, ventilation constraints, ground-control considerations, and other underground operating conditions.
  • Maintain and improve preventive maintenance programs based on equipment history, failure trends, reliability data, and engineering recommendations.
  • Participate in weekly scheduling and planning meetings and provide clear visibility of work readiness, constraints, and backlog.
  • Support shutdown and major maintenance planning, including scope development, resource loading, sequencing, materials planning, and execution readiness.
  • Review completed work, capture feedback from trades and supervisors, and continuously improve job plans and maintenance strategies.
  • Maintain accurate equipment, task, bill-of-material, and maintenance-plan information within the site's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Track planning performance, backlog quality, schedule compliance, work-order readiness, and other maintenance KPIs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all planned work can be executed safely and in accordance with site requirements.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience
  • Associate degree, diploma, or technical qualification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of formal technical education, trade qualification, and relevant mining experience may be considered.
  • Electrical, Instrumentation, or Industrial Maintenance trade certification is highly desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, industrial maintenance, or maintenance planning, preferably within an underground mining environment.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and scheduling maintenance work for underground electrical and/or instrumentation systems.
  • Strong practical understanding of electrical distribution, motors, drives, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, controls, instrumentation, and industrial communication systems.
  • Experience working with a CMMS such as SAP, Maximo, JD Edwards, or similar.
  • Experience developing detailed job plans, labor estimates, material requirements, and maintenance work packages.
  • Underground mining experience with an understanding of mine access, isolation requirements, hazardous environments, and production constraints is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting major shutdowns, capital projects, or large-scale maintenance campaigns is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, mining regulations, safety standards, and electrical isolation/LOTO practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
