Job summary

Position: UCA GEAR UP Success Coach

Location: On-site at UCA GU Partner Schools
Length of Contract: SY26-27
Compensation: $20+ per hour

Who We Are:

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs and is a federally funded partnership between University of Central Arkansas and Little Rock, Jacksonville North Pulaski, Pine Bluff, Pulaski County, and Hope School districts surrounding Little Rock, Arkansas. As part of the UCA GEAR UP grant, our company will be working with 6th and 7th grade students this year in an early college advising series designed to promote academic success and raise college awareness.

CAMP is a Birmingham-based company that has been serving the educational community in Alabama since 2009. We believe every student who is eager to learn should have access to higher education. Our team brings over 150 years of experience in education to the table to provide schools a suite of services designed to improve student academic achievement. We are proud to partner with UCA GEAR UP this academic year.

Job Description:

As a Success Coach, you will play a crucial role in guiding middle school students on the path to college. We are seeking energetic individuals with a proven track record of success in college. In this role, you will help design and execute programming with students in diverse academic environments. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to engage students in a classroom setting and keep accurate records, ensuring impactful contributions to our mission to support students pursuing higher education opportunities. If you are passionate about empowering students, we encourage you to apply and be a key player in shaping educational futures.

Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Direct Student Support (70%)
  • Teaching: Deliver high-quality instruction in various educational settings, fostering a positive and motivating learning environment.
  • Assessment: Monitor and evaluate student grasp of material, providing feedback and making necessary adjustments to instructional methods.
  • Curriculum Adjustment: Review provided early college advising curriculum and ensure content is tailored to the needs of your middle school students.
Relationship-Building (20%)
  • Program Implementation: Develop and maintain strong relationships with school administrators and staff.
  • Support CPA with monitoring fulfillment and adherence to contractual agreements with UCA GEAR UP and school partners.
  • Student Needs: In all settings, create strong relationships with students to better tailor instruction to their needs.
Program Planning and Operations (10%)
  • Lesson Planning: Review provided curriculum in advance of session, ensure all materials are ready, and confirm session with point of contact
  • Organizational Skills: Maintain accurate records and assist with administrative tasks related to program implementation.
  • Work Independently: Demonstrate the ability to work independently and take initiative in addressing challenges and achieving program goals.
Requirements
  • Pursuing Associate’s degree or higher

Additional relevant experience (preferred, not required)
  • Some middle school or high school teaching experience
  • Strong curriculum planning and instructional design skills
