Job summary

Jackson Hospital Internal is seeking an experienced Medical Records Coder to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and ICD-10-PCS codes to patient encounters in accordance with established guidelines.

The role involves reviewing records on nursing units, collaborating with CDI staff to improve documentation specificity, and auditing records retrospectively to validate accuracy and identify improvement opportunities. Requires five years of coding experience and RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CCA/CPC/COC/CIC credentials.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Management or graduate of an approved coding course.
• Five years medical record coding experience.
• Credentialed in Health Information Management as an RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, CIC
• Ability to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, ICD-10-PCS codes per guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review patients' medical records on the nursing units and assign inpatient and outpatient hospital coding.
• Collaborate with the CDI staff to promote specificity in physician documentation and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Assist with retrospective auditing to validate accuracy of concurrent processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Serve as an educational resource to Medical Staff to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
