Job summary

Actalent in Madison, AL is seeking a Software Test Engineer for Levels 1 and 4 to verify unmanned aircraft systems software in a disciplined aerospace environment. You will plan, execute, and document tests and translate requirements into verification strategies and advanced test capabilities.

Level 1 focuses on guided testing with documentation; Level 4 leads planning, automation, and defect investigations across software and hardware boundaries in lab environments with HIL systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• For Level 1: 0–2 years of experience in software test, software development, systems integration, or related engineering disciplines.
• For Level 4: 7+ years of experience in software test, verification, integration, or related engineering disciplines.
• Experience with at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, C, C++, or Java.
• Strong proficiency in test automation and scripting using languages such as Python, C, or C++.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, real-time systems, software–hardware interfaces, laboratory equipment, and data analysis.
• Ability to read and interpret technical requirements and produce clear test records.
• Familiarity with version control, configuration management, requirements traceability, defect management, and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, executing, and documenting software verification activities for UAS.
• Develop and execute repeatable software test procedures from approved requirements.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and system-level testing in lab/HIL environments.
• Document configurations, results, anomalies with objective evidence.
• Reproduce defects, collect logs, and support root-cause analysis.
• Maintain test scripts, data, simulators, and equipment under configuration control.
• Lead defect triage and verification of corrective actions.
• Mentor junior engineers on test methods and tools.
