Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) seeks a Machine Learning Systems Engineer (UAS) to advance unmanned aerial systems in Colorado Springs. You will collaborate with hardware, software, and AI teams to drive research from concept to operation.

The role emphasizes flight controller integration, autonomous navigation, and AI edge processing, with opportunities to work on DoD/DoE programs and real‑world deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of relevant experience in UAS, robotics, embedded software, controls, or related engineering activities; internships/projects considered.
• Foundational programming skills in C++ and/or Python.
• Familiarity with PX4, ArduPilot, MAVLink, ROS, or UAV flight controllers.
• Ability to troubleshoot, follow test procedures, and document results.

Responsibilities

• Configure and integrate flight controllers (PX4/ArduPilot) with Cube-based hardware and UAV platforms.
• Support firmware flashing, parameter configuration, PID tuning, motor mapping, ESC calibration, sensor integration and calibration.
• Develop, modify, and test software in C++ and/or Python for flight control, sensor processing, and Jetson-based AI/vision systems.
• Integrate ROS and MAVLink interfaces for communication between flight controllers, companion computers, and ground control systems.
• Support computer vision and AI-based perception (OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, DeepStream).
• Deploy and evaluate AI models on NVIDIA Jetson platforms for real-time inference.
