Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech in San Luis Obispo, CA seeks an Application Software Engineer II to develop, test, and maintain operator-facing software for unmanned aircraft systems. You will contribute to mission planning, telemetry visualization, and execution workflows with strong quality practices.

You will collaborate with software, avionics, systems, and test engineers to ensure well-tested software and smooth integration across the UAS stack, while maintaining independence and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in C#, Python, C++, or Java.
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and debugging software applications.
• Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
• Experience developing and executing unit/integration tests.
• Ability to identify, document, and troubleshoot software defects.
• Ability to read, understand, and implement software requirements and technical documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication; collaborate across teams.
• Ability to work independently with guidance when appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance operator-facing software for UAS ground control, mission planning, telemetry visualization, and workflows.
• Implement features and fix defects per requirements and standards.
• Participate in technical reviews for quality, reliability, and maintainability.
• Plan and execute unit, integration, and system tests; verify functionality.
• Define test objectives and data collection for system verification.
• Build and maintain internal tools to improve development and testing workflows.
• Identify, investigate, and report software defects and integration issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software with lab, ground, and flight test activities.
• Prepare test procedures, test reports, release notes, and troubleshooting guides; support CM and releases.
