Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech is seeking an Application Software Engineer II in San Luis Obispo, CA to develop, test, integrate, and maintain operator-facing software for unmanned aircraft systems including ground control, mission planning, telemetry visualization, and workflow execution.

You will collaborate with software, avionics, systems, and test engineers, apply quality practices, and contribute to tests, documentation, and release readiness while working with increasing independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance software applications supporting UAS operations and mission execution.
• Implement features and resolve defects in accordance with requirements and design guidance.
• Participate in technical reviews to ensure software quality, reliability, and maintainability.
• Plan, develop, and execute unit, integration, and system tests to verify functionality.
• Support verification and validation by defining test objectives and data collection.
• Build and maintain internal tools and automation for development and testing workflows.
• Identify, investigate, and report software defects and integration issues.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate software and support lab and flight test activities.
• Prepare technical documentation and support release processes.
