Job summary

A&O Shearman’s U.S. eDiscovery team in New York delivers core eDiscovery and data services to Global Disputes. The U.S.

eDiscovery Director leads design of workflows, education sessions, and client engagement, reporting to the eDiscovery Executive Director. The role requires deep eDiscovery expertise, experience with Relativity/Master and aiR tools, and the ability to guide teams and clients across the firm. Open to New York office with substantial travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years’ eDiscovery experience in law firm or comparable professional services environment.
• Excellent customer-oriented service ethos and client relationship management experience.
• Extensive experience with Relativity Master and the aiR suite of AI tools.
• Deep understanding of FRCP and regulator rules.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Driving eDiscovery business by fostering trusted relationships with Partners and external clients.
• Providing expert guidance in the application of current technology including generative AI features and their use in culling data, reviewing documents and identifying key information.
• Designing and implementing efficient and defensible workflows for investigations, discovery, cyber and other client-data-focused exercises.
• Advising on data collection scope and method including potential use of third-party forensic service providers.
• Evaluating, testing and implementing new technologies.
• Designing and presenting engaging education sessions for the global A&O Shearman network.
• Developing and delivering presentations and documentation for internal and external marketing initiatives.
• Continually improving best practices and sharing knowledge to enhance global eDiscovery team’s service.

Department Purpose

A&O Shearman’s in-house eDiscovery team is uniquely positioned within the firm to deliver core eDiscovery and data services to the Global Disputes practice groups, other internal departments and the firm’s clients. Providing professional and innovative eDiscovery services is a key part of the firm’s Global Disputes strategy. Our global team combines discovery expertise, advanced technology and data-driven solutions to deliver meaningful outcomes for clients while supporting the firm's ongoing innovation in legal services.

Role Purpose

The U.S. eDiscovery Director is a wide-ranging, senior-level role involved in nearly all aspects of the eDiscovery business at A&O Shearman including designing workflows using the latest technology, developing and presenting innovative education sessions and engaging with internal and external clients through the creation and delivery of marketing collateral and thought leadership pieces. This role is ultimately charged with providing excellent client service and expert technical guidance to the Global Disputes and other A&O Shearman practice groups. Given its wide remit, the role requires a person to have great depth and breadth of experience in eDiscovery and related services. The role is based in New York and will report to the eDiscovery Executive Director.

Key relationships

• Global eDiscovery stakeholders including A&O Shearman lawyers and Innovation teams
• Fellow eDiscovery team members including peer Global eDiscovery Consultants in EMEA and APAC
• Contacts from across the firm’s business functions to help facilitate team objectives
• Account representatives from third-party software and service providers

Key Requirements

• Minimum of 15 years’ eDiscovery experience in law firm and/or comparable professional services environment(s) Excellent customer-oriented service ethos and client relationship management experienceï·Extensive experience with Relativity (Relativity Master) and the aiR suite of AI tools
• Deep understanding of forensic data collection tools and techniques
• Relevant knowledge of current IT platforms typically connected with discovery exercises
• Command of relevant FRCP and regulator rules
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Excellent attention to detail including working methodically
• Ability to work apace and under pressure
• Flexibility to work beyond office hours on occasion
• Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Willingness and ability to travel to other offices
• Degree in Law, Computer Science or other relevant discipline advantageous

This role is open to our New York office. For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in New York, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $230,000-$292,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.
