Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. Our concept was born out of the need for affordable, one-way, nationwide moving equipment after World War II. Co-founders L.S. "Sam" Shoen and Anna Mary Carty Shoen recognized this need and developed a system that spread the cost of ownership among many users, fostering mobility across the U.S. and Canada. Over time, the iconic orange U-Haul trailers became a symbol of this industry.
U-Haul is committed to creating a culture of health and wellness. As of February 1, 2020, U-Haul will not hire individuals in certain states if they use nicotine products, in accordance with applicable laws. This policy does not apply to team members hired before this date.
