Job summary

The Moses Lake School District 161 is seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired/Orientation & Mobility (TVI/O&M) to join Special Services in Moses Lake, WA. The TVI provides assessments, direct instruction, and consults with staff, parents, and outside agencies to support students and ensure IEP/IFSP compliance.

Required WA TVI certification (ESA) or ability to obtain, Braille proficiency, knowledge of WAC 392-172 and IDEA Parts B & C, and ability to work independently or in a team with

Qualifications

  • Certification as TVI or ESA certification in WA.
  • Proven proficiency in Braille.
  • Knowledge of WA Special Education Rules and IDEA requirements.
  • Experience working in teams and independently.
  • Willingness to travel within district buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Collaborates with others for the purpose of implementing intervention strategies and/or providing recommendations/modifications to assist basic education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, other personnel, and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services, and/or making recommendations.
  • Establishes necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources for the purpose of managing the vision programs for students and/or working cooperatively with staff to accomplish the goals of the IEP or IFSP.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance with the Moses Lake School District, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participates as a member of the evaluation team and IEP committee for the purpose of contributing evaluation findings and/or collaborating on the child’s educational program plan.
  • Provides direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, co-teaching in general education settings, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring services are delivered in conformance with the Moses Lake School District, state, and federal requirements.
  • Provides instruction to visually impaired students through both group and individual experiences for the purpose of developing and implementing individualized education plans for students.
