Job description

Job Title: TVC - Suicide Prevention Program Manager (Program Specialist V)

Join the Texas Veterans Commission as a Suicide Prevention Program Manager (Program Specialist V). This role involves leading efforts to reduce suicide among Texas veterans and service members, including providing training, developing strategies, and collaborating with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, review, and implement training related to suicide prevention, including evidence-based practices, screening, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and lethal means restriction.
  2. Conduct training sessions in various formats (in-person, online, e-learning).
  3. Participate in and lead initiatives aimed at reducing veteran suicide across Texas.
  4. Create culturally competent, research-informed strategies for diverse areas.
  5. Engage community stakeholders and represent TVC at conferences and meetings.
  6. Develop partnerships, prepare reports, and perform related projects as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Masters degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field; college transcripts required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mental health services.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a Texas license as a mental health professional within one year.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with mental health concerns, suicidality, and veteran populations.
  • Experience providing training and working with suicide prevention collaborations.
  • Knowledge of mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment principles.
Additional Information:

This position requires a criminal background check and may require providing military service documentation and licenses before an interview. The work environment is mainly office-based with some physical activity, extensive phone use, and computer work. The role is full-time, mid-senior level, in government administration.
