Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a tutor for Malcolm X College to provide academic assistance to students in Surgical Technology, working under instructor direction.

The role includes scheduling tutoring sessions, maintaining student records, and contributing to student motivation and study skills development. Collaboration with staff and ongoing training are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher and NBSTSA credential in Surgical Technology.
• 2 years of operating room experience or Surgical Technology teaching experience.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse student body.

Job description

Essential Duties:

• Provides academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
• Establishes liaison with the instructor and works under the instructor’s direction to assist the student.
• Attends periodic training sessions given by staff members toincrease competency in working with students.
• Maintains records on each student who is being tutored,including follow-up and periodic assessment.
• Schedules tutoring appointments.
• Provides evaluations and other reports as required bystaff.
• Helps students develop positive attitudes toward learning andstudying and helps students develop a high level of motivation inacademic areas.
• Assists students in achieving a better understanding ofspecific subject material and in improving academic capabilities indesignated areas.
• Helps students develop the study skills necessary for academicsuccess.
• Establishes and maintains rapport with the assignedstudents.
• Assists in designing and implementing class cooperativeprojects.

Qualifications:

• Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, NBSTSA approvedcredential in Surgical Technology and 2 years of experience in theoperating room or as a Surgical Technology instructor, or acombination of both within the past 5 years
• Consideration will be given to candidates who do not have aBachelors degree but possess technical certification(s) necessaryfor the subject being tutored.
• Possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to workwith a diverse student body.
• Must be self-directed and able to complete assignments in atimely manner.
