Job summary

Olympic College is seeking part-time Tutor positions at the Shelton Campus to support students across Biology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics and more. The role involves helping students analyze readings, clarify concepts, and assist online learners.

Applicants may stay in the pool for up to 12 months as vacancies arise. Successful candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to tutor multiple disciplines, and demonstrate basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in clarifying critical thinking and/or communication skills.
  • Assist students working in an online format.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Job Overview

Tutor Shelton. Salary: $19.50 - $25.96 per hour. Classification: Instructional Classroom & Support Tech. Location: Shelton Campus. Reports to: Director of Tutoring. This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur. Olympic College continuously recruiting for an Instruction & Classroom Support Tech – Tutor position that may occur throughout the year for various departments at the Shelton campus. The position will be responsible for helping students develop abilities in their discipline. Disciplines include Biology, Chemistry, Composition, Engineering, English, Languages, Mathematics, and Writing. Part‑time positions reviewed quarterly. Applicants remain in the pool for 12 months from application date. Applying does not guarantee a position.

Essential Functions
  • Provide academic support for students in one or more non‑STEM subject areas.
  • Assist students in analyzing assignments and assigned readings.

  • Reference from an instructor or professor if you are a current Olympic College student.
  • High School graduate or equivalent, or current Running Start student.
  • Completion of course(s) to be tutored with an average decimal grade of 3.5 or higher.
  • Basic computer competency.
Additional Requirements
  • Must not sponsor visas; must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Hourly employees must work 480 hours in rolling 6 months to become eligible for health benefits; 70 hours in any 5 months for two consecutive years to become eligible for retirement.
  • Schedule up to 18 hours per week; salary $19.50–$25.96.
  • Background check and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form required.
  • Must reside in Washington State and within reasonable distance to campus.

Terms of Employment

Hourly employees must work 480 hours in a rolling six‑month period to become eligible for health benefits. They must work 70 hours in any five months for two consecutive years to become eligible for retirement. The position may qualify for deferred compensation program, supplemental retirement savings plan, sick leave, paid holidays, Aflac, tuition waiver, employee assistance program, fitness center, and childcare consideration.
