Job summary

The Martha O’Bryan Center is seeking part-time tutors in Nashville, TN to support students in grades K–8 with math, reading, and writing. Tutors will also facilitate enrichment activities in dance, art, science and more, with a focus on building relationships and guiding students toward personal goals.

Qualifications include college enrollment or degree, prior tutoring or teaching experience, and strong communication and organizational skills. Evening hours are 3:15–7:00 p.m. at multiple sites.

POSITION SUMMARY

Tutors are responsible for providing hands-on support and assistance to students grades K – 8, including homework help and tutoring support in math, reading, and writing. Tutors also provide opportunities for students to express themselves through dance, STEP, art, athletics, science, and more.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Builds relationships with a small cohort of students.
  • Provides hands-on academic assistance to students daily.
  • Provides complementary homework help and foundational support daily.
  • Helps each student achieve success by encouraging students to reach individual goals.
  • Provides enrichment activities for students based on tutor’s individual gifts and talents.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience
  • College degree or currently enrolled in a degree program; degree in Education a plus.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring children.

This is a part time position at one of the following locations:
  • MOBC - A Community-Based Site (East End Prep, Explore Community School, KIPP-Kirkpatrick); Monday - Thursday 3:15 - 6:15 pm
  • Warner Arts Magnet Elementary - Monday - Thursday 3:30 - 6:30 pm
  • Litton MiddleSchool - Monday - Friday 4:0 - 7:00 pm
  • Stratford MiddleSchool - Monday - Friday 4:00 - 7:00 pm
