Job summary

Jackson-Madison County is looking for motivated college students to serve as K-8 Math and Reading Tutors. Job Summary

We are seeking motivated and responsible college students to provide academic tutoring in math and reading to elementary and middle school students. Tutors will work with students one-on‑one or in small groups to support skill development, homework completion, and confidence building. This is a great opportunity for students interested in education, youth development, or community service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic support in math and/or reading to students in grades K-8.
  • Use age‑appropriate strategies and materials to support comprehension and skill‑building.
  • Assist students with homework, class assignments, or foundational skills.
  • Create a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Track student progress and communicate regularly with program staff or teachers.
  • Attend required training and follow program policies and safety guidelines.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to young learners.
Qualifications
  • Must be a current Freed‑Hardeman University, Lane College, Union University, UT Martin, or University of Memphis student (education or related fields preferred).
  • Strong academic skills in math and reading (minimum GPA requirement may apply).
  • Prior experience working with children is a plus but not required.
  • Clear communication skills and a patient, encouraging attitude.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to manage time effectively.
  • Must pass background checks as required by the school or program.
