Job summary

Austin Community College is seeking a part-time Tutor II (Hourly) to support students in the Learning Lab and related tutoring programs on campus. You will tutor individuals and small groups, organize learning materials, and provide feedback on progress to help students reach academic goals.

The role requires flexible scheduling, a willingness to work at either Riverside or Round Rock Campus, and collaboration with faculty and staff to enhance tutoring services.

Qualifications

  • One semester related tutoring/lab work experience.

Tutor II (Hourly)

Job Description Summary

To provide support to students through the provision of individual and/or group tutorial services.

Description of Duties and Tasks
  • Teach students according to set priorities and academic goals.
  • Provide assistance to students on a one-on-one or group basis in the subject discipline, college study skills, and Learning Lab resources.
  • Organize supplemental learning materials.
  • Provide feedback on student progress.
  • Assist with research, development, delivery, and evaluation of specialized tutoring services and/or resources for tutorial activities.
  • Lead study groups in the subject matter.
Knowledge
  • Tutoring techniques, standards, and supplemental learning materials for individual and group tutoring.
  • Learning Lab services.
  • Processes and resources for organizing and leading study groups.
Skills
  • Maintain an established work schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Effectively use interpersonal and communication skills including tact, patience, and diplomacy.

  • Must have completed the following courses (with a grade of B or higher): CETT-1403, CETT-1405, and CETT-1425; successful completion of CETT-1429 is a plus.
  • Have a recommendation from a current or former ACC professor.
  • Demonstrate patience and willingness to help fellow students.
  • Get along well with others and be a team-player.
  • Have a flexible schedule.
  • Will be interviewed by the department chair or other faculty.
  • Tutors/Lab‑techs will be assigned to either the Riverside or Round Rock Campus.
  • Hours may vary but will not exceed 19 hours per week; these are hourly positions and are filled and scheduled as needed.
Technology Skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.
Required Work Experience
  • One semester related work experience.
Preferred Work Experience
  • At least one year related experience to the discipline.
Required Education
  • Degree or substantial undergraduate coursework in the discipline, and demonstrated competence in the subjects that will be tutored.
Preferred Education
  • Associate degree in the discipline or related field.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a learning lab environment on campus in an academic setting.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.
Safety
  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
Pay Rate

$24.10/hour
