Job summary

Memphis Shelby County Schools is seeking an affiliated Before/After-School Certified tutor to design professional instruction that supports students' academic, social, physical and skill development. You will generate tutoring plans, work with small groups or individuals, and reinforce classroom learning while assisting teachers with routines and activities.

Responsibilities

• Generates tutoring plans detailing goals and enrichment activities for students.
• Develops and assists students with academic exercises and class activities in small groups or individually.
• Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and other learning activities.
• Reinforces knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
• Assists teachers with instruction and daily routines as needed.
• Provides instructional support for students identified as needing tutoring services.
• Utilizes effective instructional practices, behavior management, assessment, and directed teaching methods.
• Collects and compiles statistical data for accountability and program development.
• Collects, organizes and completes information for reports and evaluation.
• Communicates and collaborates effectively with teachers.

Job description

The Before/After-School Certified tutor is responsible for the professional instructions designd to provide academic, social, physical and skill development for students in specifiv grades/subject areas to prepare them to be successful citizens and workers.

• Generates tutoring plans for each student that details individual goals and suggested enrichment activities for both home and during school; assesses and documents student.
• Develops and assists students with academic exercises and class activities; concentrates efforts with small groups of students and individuals, as nescessary.
• Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and other learning activites.
• Reinforces all knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
• Assists teacher with academic instruction and the instruction of daily routines, skills, and concepts as needed.
• Provides instructional support and reinforcement to students identified in need of tutoring services.
• Utilizes effective instructional practices, behavior management strategies, assessment techniques and directed teaching methods.
• Collects and compiles statistical data as needed for accountability and program development.
• Collects, organizes and completes information necessary for reports and evaluation.
• Communicates and collaborates effectively with teacher.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, or two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours) from an, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test and one (1) year of experience working with children in an educational setting preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.

Degree Equivalency Formula

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
