Job summary

Polaris Community is recruiting for Holdsworth School in Burnley, Lancashire. The role supports wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management across pupils aged 5–18 with complex needs.

You will collaborate with the education team to remove barriers to learning and promote positive learning behaviours. The post requires HLTA experience, GCSEs in English and Maths, and willingness to take additional responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • HLTA or similar experience.
  • Experience with SEMH in an educational setting.
  • Willing to take additional responsibility in school areas (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School).
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
  • Committed to professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Support wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School.
  • Work with the education team to support pupils' personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning.
  • Promote positive learning behaviour with pupils.
  • Lead classes during PPA and absence cover; planning supported by teaching staff.
  • Deliver an enrichment golden time activity.
  • Support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural needs.
  • Respond to immediate concerns and clarify the situation.
  • Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered.
  • Assist in preparation of information for pupil meetings.
  • Advocate for Holdsworth School ethos.
  • Lead Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress.
  • Develop Pupil Voice and liaise with SLT about the Pupil Council.
  • Develop relationships with parents/carers and participate in transitions.

Role Responsibilities
  • To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School
  • Work with members of the education team to support young people’s personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
  • To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
  • To lead classes during PPA and absence cover. Planning will be supported by teaching staff
  • To deliver an enrichment golden time activity
  • To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
  • To respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
  • To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
  • To assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
  • To be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School
  • To lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
  • To develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
  • To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits
Requirements
  • Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
  • Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn
