Job summary

StudentNest Inc. is seeking tutors to join a mission-driven program at the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. This is an in-person position focused on small-group tutoring with support, training, and curriculum provided to help students grow academically.

Roles cover Mathematics, Data Analysis and Computing, Science, and Engineering subjects. Pay ranges from $32 to $35 per hour based on qualifications, with 15+ hours per week and Sunday–Thursday

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in a field closely related to the tutoring subject.
• At least one year of experience teaching or working with faculty and students in higher education.
• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver small-group tutoring sessions using provided curriculum and technology in collaboration with the professor.
• Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.
• Tailor teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles and needs.

Current Openings

Location: Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT 06320

• This is an IN-PERSON position only

Schedule: Sunday–Thursday, 7:00 PM–10:00 PM

Hours: 15+ hours per week

Pay: $32-35 per hour based upon qualifications and experience.

Tutor Roles by Subject:

• (1) Mathematics: Pre-Calculus, Calculus I & II, Probability and Statistics (Non-Calculus Based)
• (1) Data Analysis and Computing: Data Analysis & Visualization, Principles of Programming, Tools for Business Intelligence (using Microsoft Suite and Python)
• (1) Science: Chemistry I, Physics I
• (1) Engineering: Statistics and principles/concepts of engineering

Mandatory Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in a field closely related to the tutoring subject
• At least one year of experience teaching or working with faculty and students in higher education
• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English

Requirements

• Complete fingerprinting within 48 hours of offer
• Pass FBI/DOJ background check
• Provide 3 professional references
• Minimum one year of student-related experience
• Detail-oriented and highly reliable
• Strong communication skills
• Reliable transportation
• Provide a negative TB test within 2 weeks of hire
