Qualifications

TUMBLING PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the FitCity Program Supervisor, a Tumbling Instructor will be responsible for planning, teaching and assisting children 2 - 5 in age-appropriate tumbling and movement classes. The instructor will introduce young children to basic tumbling skills while encouraging physical activity, coordination, balance, confidence, and social development. The instructor will create a safe, positive, fun and engaging learning environment that supports the development needs and abilities of each child.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Plans and teaches age-appropriate tumbling and movement classes for children 2-5.
  • Introducing children to fundamental tumbling skills, including balancing, rolling, jumping, stretching, coordination, body awareness and basic movement patterns.
  • Uses age-appropriate games, activities, music and creative movement to maintain engagement and encourage participation.
  • Provides clear instructions and positive encouragement while helping children develop confidence and independence.
  • Adapts activities and instruction to accommodate different developmental stages, abilities and comfort levels.
  • Demonstrates and teaches safe movement techniques and proper use of tumbling mats and other equipment.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and organized class environment before, during and after each session.
  • Closely supervises children and maintains appropriate safety practices throughout all classes and activities.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and reports any damaged or missing equipment to supervisor/coordinator.
  • Interacts courteously and respectfully with participants, staff, volunteers and patrons.
  • Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position.
  • Must abide by all city policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and Experience:
    • Graduation from high school or equivalent, previous experience teaching or working with children 2-5 years old. Previous experience in tumbling, gymnastics, dance, physical education, early childhood education or related fields preferred. Ability to create fun, engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for young children. Team-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to work well with other employees, parents/guardians and volunteers.
  • License and Certifications:
    • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 3 months of hire. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and productive manner. Good public relations skills.
  • Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
    • Ability to actively participate in and demonstrate tumbling and physical activities for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, sit, kneel, squat, bend, crawl, stoop, reach, lift, and carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds and move quickly as needed to assist young children.
