Job summary

Ryerson seeks a Tube Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team in Oklahoma. The role focuses on staging, packing and picking material for shipments, with hands-on operation of BLM tube laser cutting equipment and related tooling.

You will read blueprints and CAD drawings, interpret work orders, and perform setup, tool changes, and program adjustments to meet production needs. A registered apprenticeship is part of onboarding.

Qualifications

• Experience reading blueprints, CAD drawings and work orders.
• Knowledge of tube and structural steel processing; reading drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

• Staging, packing, and picking material for shipments.
• Operate BLM tube laser equipment (LT7, LT8 Fiber) or similar.
• Read blueprints, CAD drawings and work orders to determine material requirements.
• Set up machines, change tools, and adjust programs as needed.
• Understand laser cutting parameters, materials and thickness capabilities.
• Perform quality inspections using calipers, tape measures, micrometers and gauges.
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Troubleshoot to minimize downtime and maintain throughput.
• Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and care of machines.

As a Service Center Operator A (SCOA) at Ryerson, you will be responsible forday-to-day staging, packing, and picking material for shipments using proper equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Experience operating BLM tube laser cutting equipment (LT7, LT8 Fiber, or similar tube laser systems), preferred
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and work orders.
• Knowledge of tube and structural steel processing including round, square, rectangular and specialty profiles.
• Experience with machine setup, tooling changes, and program adjustments
• Understanding of laser cutting parameters, material types, and thickness capabilities
• Ability to perform quality inspections using measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, micrometers, and gauges
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to minimize downtime
• Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment
• Understanding of preventive maintenance and routine machine care

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Minimum 2 years of similar job experience preferred
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training
