Technique is seeking a Tube Bending Technician to join our Jackson, Michigan facility. The role involves operating CNC and manual tube bending equipment, reading blueprints, and performing setup, maintenance, and part inspection with tight tolerances.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year of related machine experience in metal forming, with 2+ years in fabrication or machining preferred. Strong independence and safety awareness are essential in a dynamic production environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in solid metal fabrication/machining environment preferred.
  • Manual or CNC tube bending experience highly desired.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Proficient in using measuring instruments to inspect own work.
  • Basic CAD/CAM training/knowledge a plus.
  • Manual machining tools experience a plus.
  • Ability to lift and move items over 50 pounds.
  • Stand/walk for long periods; active shift with varied positions.

Responsibilities

  • Start up and shut down benders correctly and run configured benders.
  • Maintain bender tooling and perform weekly maintenance tasks.
  • Read basic blueprints, print full-scale prints, set up parts to fixtures.
  • Understand X, Y, Z coordinates and centerline radius to produce parts.
  • Create part inspection programs by importing coordinates and tolerances.
  • Inspect parts and recall programs for quality checks.
  • Check drop dimensions on prints using basic quality tools.
  • Operate saws to cut blanks and operate the end former.
  • Set up and develop single-stack tool jobs on the BLM bender unassisted.
  • Work independently while following directions.

Job description

Technique is looking for a Tube Bending Technician to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Tube Fabrication Manager in the Tube Fabrication department. This role requires performing all aspects of tube bender operation, maintenance, programming, and set up using CNC tube bending machinery, saws, and end forming equipment. The employee will make fast and accurate decisions relating to the production process and equipment, and will need a good understanding of the size, tolerance, and use of the parts being produced.

The ideal candidate brings at least 1 year of related machine operating experience in a metal forming operation, with 2+ years of experience in a solid metal fabrication or machining environment preferred. Strong blueprint reading skills, familiarity with X, Y, Z coordinates and centerline radius, and the ability to work independently while following directions are critical to success in this role. Manual or CNC tube bending experience and basic CAD/CAM knowledge are a plus, and there is a clear path to advance to Tube Bending Technician Level 2 and Level 3 as skills and experience grow.

Responsibilities:
  • Start up and shut down benders – Correctly start up and shut down benders and run benders that are set up
  • Maintain bender tooling – Strip bender tooling from the machine, properly clean and store it in the correct location, and perform all weekly preventative maintenance tasks on tube bending equipment
  • Read blueprints and set up parts – Read basic blueprints, print full-scale prints for jobs, and set up and check parts to a fixture
  • Understand part geometry – Understand X, Y, Z coordinates and centerline radius and how they produce the part being made
  • Create part inspection programs – Import X, Y, Z coordinates and proper tolerances into Bend studio to create part inspection programs
  • Inspect parts – Recall programs and inspect parts
  • Check drop dimensions – Check drop dimensions on a print using basic quality tools, and set up and check parts to a fixture
  • Operate saws – Operate cold and chop saws to cut blanks
  • Operate end former – Operate the I/O End Former
  • Work independently – Follow directions and work independently
  • Set up Eaton bender jobs – Set up, program, and develop single stack tool jobs on the BLM bender unassisted
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED; vocational training (STEM Program, Career Center, or Technical Trades Training) preferred
  • At least 1 year of related machine operating experience in a metal forming operation
  • At least 2 years of experience in a solid metal fabrication/machining environment, preferably within advanced manufacturing
  • Manual or CNC tube bending experience highly desired
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Proficient in using measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to inspect own work in accordance with specifications and requirements
  • Basic CAD/CAM training/knowledge a plus
  • Manual machining experience (drill press, mill, lathe, grinder) used in modifying and maintaining tooling a plus
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise
  • No travel required for this position
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, either by means of U.S. Citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship; Technique is an E-Verify partner employer
Position Type and Expected Hours:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Note: days and hours required may vary, and flexibility in work schedule is required for this position.
