Job summary

The Bus Driver transports special needs students between home and school in a safe and timely manner, including transportation for special programs and activities.

In addition to driving, the role requires safety inspections, fueling, and supporting students’ behavior, safety, and medical needs; it also involves cleaning, communication with parents and staff, and completing routine paperwork. Confidentiality and adherence to district policies are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Arizona Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements (or from adjacent state).
  • DPS Level 1 IVP fingerprint clearance required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or obtain within first 10 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a school bus on routes and special activity trips; pick up and drop off students at designated stops and schools.
  • Inspect buses for safety and proper operation; fuel buses.
  • Monitor and assist with students' safety, behavior, and medical needs on the bus.
  • Clean and sterilize buses; maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, supervisors, staff, and students.
  • Complete required paperwork including route changes, mileage reports, and student counts.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold district policies and professional standards.
