Job summary

OpenRouter is hiring a Software Engineer on the Trust & Safety team to own detection, enforcement, and review systems that keep abuse, fraud, and illegal content off the platform. You will build systems to detect abuse, automate actions, and support reviewers with case queues and evidence summaries.

This hands-on IC role spans the inference path, payments path, internal review tooling, and data platform, with direct impact on millions of daily requests and enterprise trust.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and operating production systems, ideally in trust & safety, fraud, payments risk, security, or anti-abuse.
• Proficient in React, TypeScript, Next.js, and JS runtimes.
• Ability to write SQL against large event datasets and reason about base rates, precision and recall.
• Strong judgment when working with incomplete evidence.
• High agency and bias toward action; shipping without tickets.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate systems across signup, payments, and usage to detect abuse and fraud early.
• Own the end-to-end enforcement pipeline from detection to restrictions landing across systems.
• Develop internal tools for investigation: case queues, evidence summaries, bulk review, alerts.
• Ship content-safety solutions on the inference path and KYC/ external sources.
• Create scalable rules and heuristics to deter abuse and reduce false positives.
• Investigate incidents in the data and size patterns with analytics.
• Monitor risk, abuse spikes, and fraud with robust dashboards.
• Set technical direction to prevent abuse as the platform grows.
• Collaborate with data scientists on risk/abuse ML models.
