Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in poultry, hatchery, livestock, or agricultural transportation strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of transportation routing, dispatching, and scheduling practices.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and transportation or dispatch software.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations preferred.
  • Class A CDL license.

Job description

The Trucking Coordinator is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of day-old chicks from the hatchery to customer farms. This role serves as the primary point of contact for coordinating delivery schedules with customers and company drivers while ensuring compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, and transportation standards. The Trucking Coordinator works closely with hatchery operations, sales, customer service, and live production teams to ensure customer expectations are met and deliveries are completed accurately and on time.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule the daily delivery of day-old chicks to customers according to hatch schedules and customer requirements.
  • Develop efficient delivery routes to maximize transportation efficiency while minimizing chick transit time.
  • Dispatch company drivers.
  • Communicate delivery schedules, estimated arrival times, and schedule changes to customers, drivers, and internal departments.
  • Verify delivery orders for accuracy, including chick quantities, breeds, destinations, and special customer requirements.
  • Monitor delivery progress and respond promptly to transportation delays, weather events, equipment issues, or other disruptions.
  • Coordinate with hatchery production personnel to align delivery schedules with chick availability.
  • Ensure transportation activities comply with company biosecurity protocols, animal welfare standards, and applicable federal and state transportation regulations.
  • Coordinate truck sanitation and cleaning schedules to maintain biosecurity standards between deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, delivery documentation, mileage logs, and shipping reports.
  • Collaborate with fleet maintenance to schedule preventative maintenance and repairs, minimizing vehicle downtime.
  • Assist with customer issue resolution related to delivery timing, logistics, or transportation concerns.
  • Analyze transportation performance and recommend process improvements to enhance service, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Participate in emergency planning and contingency scheduling during weather events or production interruptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer and telephone.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to inspect loading operations and delivery vehicles as needed.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to hatchery facilities or customer locations.
