Job summary

ACME Distribution Center is seeking a dedicated Utility Person to perform upkeep and maintenance of transportation equipment. Responsibilities include washing tractors and trailers, inspecting for repairs, and keeping the wash bay clean while following safety priorities.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to work outdoors and in a temperature-controlled shop, and flexibility to assist with loading mailbags and other duties as directed by supervision.

Qualifications

• Ability to adapt to changing working environments and outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• Wash tractors and inspect for needed repairs, including lights and tires.
• Maintain clean wash bay and shop area; manage trash and housekeeping.
• Wash trailers inside and out; ensure rear doors are lowered for washing; check for hub oil leaks.
• Enter work completed into TMT system and complete required paperwork.
• Assist with loading mailbags and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Job description

PURPOSE:

Perform a variety of duties relating to the upkeep and maintenance of company transportation equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Washing tractors and inspecting units for anything that may need repairs, such as lights not working, Flat tires and or nails in tires. During the winter months make sure the electrical plugs are plugged into the tractors. Shovel snow in the walking areas as needed. May be asked to help with loading of mailbags. Changing of tires as needed, Lubrication and other work not usually done by First Class Mechanics, or parts person.
• Utility Person will help maintain a clean wash bay and a clean and orderly shop Trash cans are to be emptied as needed.
• Washing of Trailer: trailers are to be washed inside and outside, the rear door must be pulled down so the rear doors get washed. Leaving the rear door up will cause damage to the wash brushes. Use caution when using the interior washer, the interior may have to be washed twice before it is clean, use pressure washer if needed. Wash all wheels and visually check wheel hubs for oil leaks. If hub oil leaks are found, write up an out of service tag to the effect so it can be repaired.
• Must be able to learn, drive and operate tractors and equipment in a safe manner with safety number one priority.
• Associate will be evaluated on weekly basis of his or her progress.
• Fill out required paperwork according to Company guidelines. Such as wash sheets and work orders for work not related to tractor washings.
• Enter the work completed into TMT system.
• Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity.
• Complete other duties that may be assigned by Supervision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to reach, lift, pull and push heavy equipment, or objects. Ability to operate work related aids, such as truck wash equipment, and other power tools.
• Must be able to adapt to changing working environment. Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to working with power equipment. Working conditions consist of temperature controlled shop environment, and outdoors environment.
• Mental alertness and good vision are necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
