A teammate in this position learns the essential functions of the Driver job including the accurate and timely distribution of products to various customer locations. The Driver Trainee gains exposure to warehouse and other operational functions as part of the developmental process of becoming a McLane Driver.

• Pay Rate: $23.00 an hour while in training.

Essential Job Functions

A teammate in this job will train side-by-side with a Driver Trainer to acquire the skills necessary to perform the following functions:

• Maneuver tractor into position to attach trailer and handle lines to secure.
• Operate truck safely in compliance with all regulations and policies.
• Inspect equipment and submit DOT inspection reports.
• Operate Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH), document deliveries, and inspect trailers.
• Ride and train with Driver Trainer, gaining knowledge of driving and safety skills.
• Maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations.
• Assist in unloading trailers and delivering products to customers.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must:

• Have a High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
• Be at least 21 years old.
• Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy.
• Complete training and obtain Class A CDL within 6 months.
• Be able and willing to load, unload, and deliver products.
• Be physically capable of standing, walking, sitting, climbing, reaching, bending, squatting, and stooping.
• Read labels, instructions, and bills of lading.
• Perform mathematical calculations for quantities.
• Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
• Drive tractor-trailer safely and operate related equipment.

Working Conditions

• Environment includes distribution centers, transportation, shops, and customer facilities.
• Conditions may include noise, vehicle vibrations, and weather extremes.
• Regular travel, including overnight stays, is expected.
