Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan operates a copper mining complex in Tyrone, NM. The role involves safely operating haul trucks to move materials between loading and processing areas, inspecting equipment to maximize life, and following dispatch instructions.

You may mentor others and perform minor maintenance as needed. Candidates should have two years of mobile equipment experience, strong knowledge of components and safety procedures, and be prepared to pass required assessments.

Qualifications

• Two years of mobile equipment operating experience.
• Knowledge of equipment components and systems (ARC/EMS/VIMS).
• Must demonstrate aptitude and pass assessments including safety-related testing.
• Line of progression experience for internal employees is preferred.

• Understand work area changes and hazards; comply with startup/shutdown, fueling and safety procedures.

Tyrone is an open-pit copper mining complex located in Grant County, New Mexico – just 10 miles south of the historic mining community of Silver City. The copper processing facilities currently consist of a solvent extraction/electrowinning operation with an annual maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper.

What You Will Do

Safely performs duties related to the operation of haul trucks to transport materials from loading areas to processing areas at a highly skilled level.

• Responsible for:
  • Performing inspections to maximize equipment and tire life and executes assignments from computerized dispatch system and/or two-way radio
  • Understanding changes to assigned work areas and any potential hazards
  • Knowing and performing the following procedures: start-up and shut-down, fueling, fire, runaway, emergency, and accident
  • Safe and skilled performance of the following tasks: spotting at shovel, loading, traveling, dumping on stockpiles, and dumping at crusher
• Assist with training and mentoring of other equipment operators
• May also operate other heavy equipment which may include, but is not limited to, water trucks, motor graders, and track and rubber tire dozers
• May perform and assist with operations support activities such as housekeeping, barricading, cable moves, and ground support activities
• May perform minor maintenance activities
• Perform other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Two (2) years of mobile equipment operating experience
• Thorough knowledge of equipment components such as: engine, transmission, planetary final drives, main drive line, nose cone assembly, torque converter, differential and wet disc braking system
• Thorough knowledge of: ARC, EMS, payload measurement system, and VIMS
• Knowledge of payload measurement system, over speed alarm, dispatch codes, shovel and truck horn signals, secondary brake, and park brake
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Preferred

• High School diploma or GED
• Two (2) years of experience operating CAT Haul Trucks
• CDL experience

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $27.00 - $36.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
