Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Tyrone, NM seeks a mobile equipment operator to support production in an open-pit copper mining complex. You will operate haul trucks, dozers, excavators, and loaders, perform pre-shift inspections, and help with road and stockpile tasks in a safety-conscious environment.

Two years of mobile equipment operating experience and completion of required competencies are expected; the role may require a non-standard schedule and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Two years of mobile equipment operating experience.
• Complete required academic and practical competencies and pass any required written assessment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (haul trucks, water trucks, dozers, excavators, graders, loaders) to support production.
• Perform pre-shift inspections and routine maintenance.
• Assist with training and mentoring of other operators.
• Follow start-up/shutdown, parking, and safety procedures (LOTOTO, emergency, Blue Stake).
• Assist with road work, stockpile management, and reclamation tasks.

Where You Will Work

Tyrone is an open-pit copper mining complex located in Grant County, New Mexico – just 10 miles south of the historic mining community of Silver City. The copper processing facilities currently consist of a solvent extraction/electrowinning operation with an annual maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper.

What You Will Do

• Operate heavy equipment in support of production including de-watering, materials delivery, maintaining berms, and surface maintenance at a highly skilled level.
• Operate heavy equipment which may include but is not limited to: haul trucks, water trucks, rubber tire dozers, track dozers, excavators, motor graders and front-end loaders
• May assist with training and mentoring of other equipment operators
• Responsible for understanding changes to assigned work areas and any potential hazards
• Responsible for knowing the following procedures: start-up and shut-down, parking, mounting and dismounting, Lock-Out Tag-Out Try-Out (LOTOTO), emergency, fire, working with ground personnel, and Blue Stake
• May perform the following duties: road building, managing stockpiles, road surface maintenance, building and maintaining road berms, loading trucks, and trenching
• Responsible for understanding equipment components and practices that reduce component damage and wear
• May be asked to assist with project work that may include: establishing ramps, establishing pioneer work in non-active mining locations, establishing and maintaining reclamation tailings slopes, and establishing and maintaining reclamation stockpile slopes
• May perform operations support activities such as barricading shovels and assisting with power cable moves
• Communicates through computer dispatching system or two-way radio
• Performs pre-shift inspection of equipment
• May perform minor maintenance activities
• Perform other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Two (2) years of mobile equipment operating experience
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$27.00 - $36.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
