Truck Driver - Hiker/Vehicle Transporter/CDL - Part Time

Position Summary

Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves vehicle delivery and return to Penske locations and customers. The primary responsibility is moving box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A drivers, tractors and trailers. The role may also include assisting the service department with parts and equipment delivery.

Major Responsibilities

• Follow safety procedures while driving trucks to destinations.
• Inspect vehicles for mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment, reporting issues to the manager.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for deliveries and collect payments when required.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of driving experience.
• Clean DMV motor vehicle record for 2 years.
• CDL Class B license required; Class A preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Customer service, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
• Regular attendance is essential.
• Regulated by DOT; must maintain a driver qualification file including MVR checks, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History. CDL holders require a recent DOT Drug Screening and FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
• Willingness to travel, work scheduled hours, complete employment paperwork, and pass background and drug screenings.

Physical Requirements

• Must meet physical and mental demands, with reasonable accommodations available.
• Visual and auditory abilities required.
• Frequent movement, standing, walking, sitting, and handling objects up to 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Legal operation of a motor vehicle and safe entry/exit are mandatory.

Work Schedule and Compensation

This part-time position is ideal for CDL Class B or A licensed drivers seeking 10-25 hours weekly, scheduled from Noon to 7 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with optional weekend availability. Pay is $18/hour for Class B and $19/hour for Class A. Benefits are limited but include PTO accrual and minor perks. This role is not benefits-eligible.
