Job Summary
Ohmstede Ltd. is looking for a Truck Driver, under the direction of the Production Coordinator, Transportation Manager or Production Manager, who will pick up and deliver shell and tube heat exchangers, parts and components from customers, shop, and/or vendor’s customers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Must comprehend instructions from supervisors and/or co‑workers.
- Must be proficient in the operation of both flatbed and tractor‑trailer trucks (having GCWR of 26,001 lbs. or more).
- Engage in or oversee loading and unloading of all cargo.
- Responsible for covering and securing all loads.
- Responsible for the hookup and breakdown of equipment using proper tools and procedures.
- Communicate verbally and effectively in English with supervisors and co‑workers to resolve any questions regarding safety, job conduct, and product quality control.
- Operate vehicles, and power tools when authorized and qualified to do so and in accordance with established company rules and work orders.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned tractor‑trailer and/or flatbed.
- Comply with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.
- Must be able to work, when necessary, as required for fleet operations, day, night and weekends.
Marginal Job Functions
- Assist in tool room. Issue tools. Record keeping.
- Aid crane operator by visual and vocal signals when parts/assemblies are being positioned or moved.
- Use broom and other cleaning equipment to maintain the work area in a clean, orderly environment.
- Assist in shipping and receiving material.
- Company reserves the right to assign jobs and tasks not specified above.
Equipment/Clothing Used to Perform Job
- Protective equipment: gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, goggles, Tyvex, and respiratory protection including partial half‑mask respirators.
- Assorted long and short‑handled tools.
- Various cargo securement devices.
- Mechanical lift equipment including overhead cranes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of fabrication shop practices.
- Must be able to pass and maintain US Government TWIC status.
- Two years of related experience with flat beds.
- Must meet all knowledge and/or certification of qualification requirements to comply with all State and federal Highway Safety Regulation.
- Comprehensive understanding and use of English to satisfy FMCSA Regulation.
- Demonstrate ability to properly process pick‑up and delivery BOL tickets.
- Must perform required daily inspection of vehicle and keep record in vehicle, keep vehicle clean and serviced at regular intervals.
- Maintain a valid Commercial driver’s license — Class A.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in operation of tractor‑trailer over an approximate ten‑mile road test with interviewer in the cab.
- Wear personal protective equipment prescribed by posted signs, written instructions, and specified by the supervisor.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, push, pull, twist, squat, crawl, lift and climb.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Will work in heat, noisy, dusty, dirty, cold environment.
- May be exposed to chemicals and pinching hazards.
