Job Description
This position requires the ability to drive a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). May load and unload vehicle as required. Requires a commercial drivers’ license.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Primary Duties / Responsibilities
- Greet customers with respect and courtesy.
- Keep up to date with product inventory and its functionality.
- Ask questions and provide relevant information to customers; list potential purchases to ensure excellent customer service.
- Inspect vehicle to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Follow safety procedures for transporting goods, including load inspection to ensure cargo is secure.
- Secure cargo using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers.
- Read and interpret maps for route planning.
- Position trucks for loading or unloading, following signals and ensuring proper equipment placement.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for deliveries and collect payments if required.
- Verify load documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Collect and verify delivery instructions and routes.
- Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, cellular phones, driver cameras, and GPS to communicate with bases or other drivers.
- Assist with loading or unloading trucks as needed.
- Maintain proficiency in safety policies and practices.
- Perform other driver-related duties as assigned.
- Adhere to company policies and work requirements.
Required Skills / Abilities
- Ability to read, write, understand, and relay written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate equipment like calculators or scanners.
- Basic mathematical skills for transactions.
- Knowledge of company products, services, and policies.
- Valid "Class-C" driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of on-the-job training.
- Two years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically capable of performing job requirements, including manual dexterity, grip strength, depth perception, etc., in compliance with regulations.
- Ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Must wear prescribed personal protective equipment.
Other Requirements
- Pass drug tests, physical capacity assessments, background, and motor vehicle checks.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting safety standards.
