Job summary

The University of Georgia seeks a Program Coordinator I for Upward Bound to manage academic and enrichment services for eligible students in the Athens area. You will design curricula, recruit and supervise staff, and ensure compliant reporting and assessment processes.

You will work with middle and high school students, coordinate diagnostics and SEP-based advising, and support program evaluation to ensure high impact outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
  • Experience coordinating Upward Bound or similar programs is preferred.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate academic, college prep, and enrichment services for eligible participants.

Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator supports the implementation of Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science program objectives by coordinating academic, college preparatory, and enrichment services for eligible participants. Responsibilities include designing and delivering standards-based instructional curriculum; supervising and evaluating part-time instructional and tutorial staff; administering and analyzing diagnostic and achievement assessments; and providing academic advising aligned with students’ Individualized Education Plans (Student Educational Plans/SEPs) in collaboration with secondary school counselors. Participant recruitment, selection, and retention; monitors academic progress and addresses identified academic needs; supports program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts; and compiles required documentation and data related to instructional services, participant outcomes, and federally mandated reporting requirements.

This position works primarily with middle and high school students.

A sincere commitment to an interest in the educational needs of the target population and a proven track record in motivating youth from low-income, first-generation families, and the ability to stimulate positive activity of program staff are preferred. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged youth. Applicants who have succeeded in overcoming the disadvantages of circumstances like those of the population of the target area are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Manage and plan curriculum, deliver academic advising, assess the skill level of program participants, and develop a Student Education Plan (SEP) to address academic deficiencies and increase academic progress based on test scores, GPA, needs assessment, and teacher recommendation.

  • Recruit, orient, and test program participants. Develop, coordinate, and manage the instructional program, including the after-school tutorial program for the academic year and the instructional component for the summer residential program.
  • Coordinate program documentation of academic services as well as evaluation of efforts and submit monthly and annual reports regarding student retention and progress in courses and tests.

  • Coordinate, train, and supervise instructors and tutorial staff. Maintain a working knowledge of TRIO Programs, Upward Bound Programs, and the University of Georgia policies.
