The TRIO Educational Opportunity Center ( EOC ) Advisor provides educational, career, and college-access advising to prospective and current adult students seeking to enter, return to, or successfully navigate postsecondary education. The Advisor works directly with EOC participants to identify educational and career goals, address barriers to enrollment and completion, and connect individuals with appropriate college and community resources.
The position is responsible for participant recruitment and outreach, individualized advising, assistance with admissions and financial aid processes, participant follow-up, and accurate documentation of services. The Advisor works closely with BCCC departments, community organizations, workforce agencies, schools, and other partners to expand access to educational and career opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education, counseling, student services, social work, psychology, human services, higher education, or a related field.
- Experience providing academic advising, counseling, student support, college access, recruitment, or related services.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and individuals from underserved or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or other student information and case-management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with college and community partners.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the college’s service area for recruitment and outreach activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, higher education, social work, student affairs, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a TRIO program, Educational Opportunity Center, community college, adult education, or college access program.
- Knowledge of federal TRIO programs and U.S. Department of Education regulations.
- Experience with college admissions, financial aid, FAFSA , career advising, and student recruitment.
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, adult, displaced, or otherwise underserved students.
- Experience developing community partnerships and conducting outreach activities.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the TRIO / EOC Advisor works cooperatively with BCCC faculty and staff and performs the following:
- Recruit, identify, and enroll eligible EOC participants through community outreach, presentations, recruitment events, and referral partnerships.
- Provide individualized academic, career, and educational advising to participants.
- Assist participants with college admissions, enrollment, registration, FAFSA , financial aid, scholarships, and other college-related processes.
- Help participants identify educational and career goals and develop plans for achieving those goals.
- Provide information about degree and certificate programs, workforce training, transfer opportunities, career pathways, and other educational options.
- Identify barriers to educational access and connect participants with appropriate college and community resources.
- Monitor participant progress and provide ongoing follow-up, referrals, and support to promote enrollment, persistence, and success.
- Develop and maintain relationships with schools, adult education programs, workforce agencies, community organizations, social service agencies, and other referral partners.
- Conduct presentations and workshops related to college access, financial aid, career planning, financial literacy, college readiness, and student success.
- Maintain accurate and confidential participant records and document services, contacts, referrals, and outcomes in accordance with TRIO and college requirements.
- Assist with participant eligibility documentation, data collection, federal reporting, program assessment, and grant compliance.
- Collaborate with BCCC Admissions, Financial Aid, Advising, Career Services, academic departments, and other college offices to support participants.
- Represent the EOC program and BCCC at community meetings, outreach events, college fairs, and other recruitment activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, TRIO training, conferences, and program evaluation activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of TRIO requirements, admissions and financial aid processes, and educational and workforce opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the TRIO / EOC Program Director.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Serves on appropriate college committees as requested.
- Participates in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
- Interacts with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous, and professional manner.
