Job summary

Lewis Services is seeking a Trimmer Trainee in Morganton, NC to support tree crews with trimming and line clearing. You will gain skills in vegetation management for utility partners, working outdoors and traveling to multiple worksites with proper safety training.

Ideal candidates have 6 months of ground crew experience, a valid CDL, and certifications in CPR/First Aid. This role emphasizes safety, learning, and teamwork, with paid training and internal promotions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of experience on tree crews as Groundperson or Driver.
• Willingness to work at heights and learn climbing/aerial lift techniques.
• Understanding basic tree identification and vegetation management practices.
• Certification or ability to complete Trimmer Trainee Technical Knowledge and Skills Certification.
• Valid driver’s license, CDL, and medical certification as required.
• CPR and First Aid certified (provided by Lewis).
• Acquire and maintain training/licenses for safe herbicide use.
• Strong work ethic, teamwork, and commitment to learning safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ground-level vegetation management around power lines (tree pruning, vegetation removal, lifting logs).
• Prune and remove branches; lift logs while climbing or using an aerial lift under supervision.
• Support crews with site prep, equipment setup, and jobsite cleanup.
• Operate and maintain tools like chainsaws, sprayers, and ropes.
• Assist with rigging and felling of trees; apply herbicides with proper certification.
