Job summary

The Chittenden County State’s Attorney’s Office in Burlington, Vermont seeks a Deputy State’s Attorney to prosecute criminal and select civil offenses within the county. A J.D. degree and Vermont Bar admission are required, with consideration for candidates awaiting bar results.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret and apply statutes, rules and regulations.
• Ability to handle a high volume of work.
• Excellent verbal and writing skills, and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines.
• Computer skills and data entry into the case management system.
• Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, law enforcement, partners and the public.
• Experience with courtroom and jury trials is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute criminal and certain civil offenses within Chittenden County.
• Represent the State’s Attorney’s Office in court.
• Manage caseload effectively and meet deadlines.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, community agencies and partners to pursue best practices.
