Job summary

The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) seeks two Trial Attorneys for the Transition Age Youth (TAY) office. Fully remote initially, with eventual office in Framingham and potential hybrid schedules across the MetroWest/Greater Boston area.

You will handle CAFL cases, including C&P, CRA, and PYA, receive targeted training, and work with diverse populations to advance zealous advocacy.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience representing parents, youth, or young adults in C&P, CRA, and/or PYA cases is preferred
• Experience with the juvenile court system and/or DCF preferred
• Experience working with young people of diverse backgrounds
• A demonstrated commitment to zealous advocacy and to improving representation/outcomes for transition age youth throughout MA
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
• Excellent litigation, writing, and oral presentation skills
• Foreign language skills are desirable
• Ability to work in a community and defense-oriented capacity, both independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities

• Providing direct representation of transition age youth in all CAFL cases at the trial level (C&P, CRA, PYA).
• Developing and delivering training on the representation of transition age youth.
• Advising and consulting with FJA staff and CAFL private panel attorneys on cases involving transition age youth.
• Conducting legal research and writing.
• Keeping up to date on practice issues affecting transition age youth.
• Working on projects related to improving legal representation and outcomes for transition age youth.
• Maintaining relationships with CAFL practitioners, Juvenile Courts, and community agencies.
• Assisting with development of annual work plans for TAY training programs.
• Other duties as assigned.
