Position Summary:

The Tree Trimmer cuts away dead or excess branches from trees or shrubs to maintain right-of-way for roads, sidewalks, or utilities, or to improve appearance, health, and value of the tree. Prune or treat trees or shrubs using chainsaws, pole saws, pruning hooks, shears, or clippers. May use truck-mounted lifts and operate power tree trimming equipment. Must communicate regularly with Greenstone Electrical Services personnel to ensure successful project completion and customer satisfaction.

Daily Job Duties

• Inspect trees for diseases or pest problems.
• Cut away dead and excess branches, clear branches around power lines using climbing equipment, buckets, chainsaws, hooks, shears, and clippers.
• Trim, top, and reshape trees for aesthetics or safety.
• Climb trees with hooks, belts, or ladders to access work areas.
• Trim jagged stumps with saws or pruning shears.
• Apply protective substances to cut surfaces to prevent fungi and insects.
• Clear sites of woody and herbaceous debris.
• Operate shredding and chipping equipment to process limbs and brush.
• Collect and load debris onto trucks for disposal.
• Hoist tools and equipment, lower branches with ropes or tackle.
• Remove broken limbs from wires using extension poles.
• Split logs and stack in designated areas.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Maintain tools and equipment by cleaning, sharpening, and lubricating.
• Operate boom trucks, loaders, chippers, tractors, power saws, trucks, and sprayers.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1 year of tree trimming experience around electrical utilities or similar; on-the-job training acceptable.
• Quick learner, able to follow instructions.
• Knowledge of forestry machinery, tools, repair, and maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record; truck driving experience preferred.

Work Environment:

Must work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, and cold.
