Job summary

City of St. Louis is seeking a Tree Trimmer I to perform manual labor and operate tree maintenance equipment in the Forestry Division. The role involves trimming and removing trees, climbing with spikes, and handling debris in a safe, productive manner.

Responsibilities include site preparation, equipment inspections, and adherence to safety procedures. A valid Missouri CDL (Class A or B) is required, and the position offers full-time hours with a competitive incentive program.

Qualifications

• One year of recent full-time paid experience in the operation of manual and power tools, ropes and other tools used in planting, pruning, trimming and removing trees and stumps.
• Must possess at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License Permit at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis.
• Requires ability to lift up to 100 pounds; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, bend and twist to perform work procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor and operates tree maintenance equipment such as chippers, chainsaws, hand saws, pruners, and dump trucks.
• Performs pre-trip inspections on all vehicles and adheres to all related safety procedures.
• Prepares site (setting up the work zone with safety cones, securing the area) and clean up.
• Identifies trees for removal and maintenance.
• Climbs trees using climbing spikes and ladders.
• Lowers cut limbs with ropes.
• Disposes tree debris by raking, sweeping, loading, and hauling of tree debris.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
