Job description

Job Title: Tree Trimmer 1

Join us to help maintain and improve urban forestry by trimming, cultivating, repairing, removing, and transplanting trees and shrubs. The role involves extensive climbing, using ropes, ladders, and various forestry tools.

Required Tasks

• Operate equipment such as boom trucks, loaders, stump chippers, brush chippers, tractors, power saws, trucks, and sprayers.
• Climb trees with hooks and belts or ladders to access work areas.
• Maintain tools and equipment by cleaning, sharpening, and lubricating.
• Trim and remove branches, using climbing gear or buckets, chainsaws, hooks, shears, and clippers.
• Shape trees and prune as directed, including fertilizing and spraying.
• Hoist tools and lower branches using ropes or block and tackle.
• Operate shredding and chipping machinery.
• Load debris onto trucks for disposal.

Experience and Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License with no more than 7 points.
• Either at least 6 months of tree trimming experience (including climbing) or completion of a recognized Tree Trimmer training program.

Special Conditions

Must be able to climb extensively and work in adverse weather. Within four months of employment, must obtain certification as a Pesticide Applicator (Category 6) and aerial lift certification, or face removal from the position.

Assessments

Applicants will undergo written and practical assessments to evaluate knowledge of tree trimming, climbing, safety practices, and botany. Passing all assessments is required to qualify for the role.
