Essential Functions
- Trim and/or remove trees by climbing with the aid of tools such as a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or work from the ground using saws/pruners. Cut branches or trunk sections and lower them safely to the ground with lines.
- Use appropriate tools to fell trees or trimmed trunks and split them into manageable pieces.
- Spray stumps and brush with hand-spraying equipment to prevent regrowth.
- Load and unload trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris; feed brush into a wood chipper.
- Repair minor damages to lawns, fences, and walkways caused by tree trimming.
- Relay hand signals, direct traffic, operate trucks and equipment as assigned, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Train new employees on proper procedures.
- Ensure safety by safeguarding employees and the public from hazards, cooperating with authorities when blocking streets or driveways, and setting up barriers and warning signs. Trained to perform tree and bucket rescues.
- Inspect and ensure proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and equipment; request repairs or replacements as needed.
- Work around hazardous equipment and near energized power lines.
- Operate in noisy environments with proper PPE, and work in various weather conditions, including exposure to irritants and rough terrain.
- Enforce safety practices among crew members.
- Service and maintain trucks, chippers, and equipment, reporting maintenance needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 months experience in tree trimming or clearing crews and/or successful completion of performance reviews.
- Ability to enforce safety practices.
- Must wear PPE as required.
- Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently.
- Capable of working in all weather conditions.
- Read, write, and comprehend job instructions.
- Effective communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds infrequently and 30 pounds frequently.
- Willingness to work long hours, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
- Ability to operate and service tools and equipment.
- Valid driver’s license (dependent on requirements) and pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Herbicide applicator/operator certification/license as required.
- Valid First-Aid and CPR certifications.
- Complete and pass a Climber Trainee Performance Review.
