Job summary

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation seeks a Conservation Operations Supervisor 2 for the Colonel William F. Fox Memorial Saratoga Tree Nursery.

You will supervise a crew handling maintenance, repairs, and operations of buildings, equipment and infrastructure, ensuring adherence to manufacturer recommendations and program guidelines. You will plan and assign work, prepare maintenance records, coordinate procurement, and liaise with divisions for large projects.

Qualifications

• Open Competitive: three years of experience... in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; one year in estimating, supervising, and planning and assigning work.
• Promotion: valid driver’s license and ability to travel; NY HELPS appointment rules.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, assist and coordinate the maintenance, repair and operation of buildings, vehicles, equipment and critical infrastructure.
• Ensure facilities, equipment and tools are maintained according to manufacturers or program recommendations.
• Assign tasks, oversee progress and schedule work for staff including Trades Generalists, Service and Repair Mechanics, Facilities Operations Assistants and seasonal staff as assigned.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of facilities and equipment maintenance activities such as repairs, purchases and future program needs/requirements.
• Procurement of supplies and materials, obtaining quotes when necessary.
• Work with the Division of Operations and the Office of General Services on equipment requisitions, surplus activities and large-scale repair projects.
• When required, work with outside contractors/vendors through the competitive bid process to identify, initiate and complete targeted priority projects pertaining to facilities, infrastructure and equipment needs.
• Maintain inventories of supplies for facility operation and maintenance ranging from tools and equipment to cleaning supplies to oils, solvents and lubricants.
• Operation and repair of various medium to heavy‑duty sized equipment, including trucks, farm tractors, front end loaders and forklifts.
• Maintain a record of Safety Data Sheets for chemicals and other required commodities.
• Assist and oversee the repair of pumps, damaged or broken irrigation or waterlines and other plumbing needs, light electrical systems and other journey level carpentry duties.
• Conduct NYS emissions and safety inspections.

Associate's degree in civil engineering technology
