Job summary

Kodiak Island Borough seeks an entry-level Wastewater Operations staff member to assist in operating and maintaining the leachate treatment plant and related equipment for safe and proper treatment.

Responsibilities include monitoring plant control systems, pumps, blowers, and chemical equipment; conducting lab tests; maintaining logs; and contributing to regulatory reports. Alaska driver’s license and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of equipment operator and maintenance experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
• State of Alaska Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operation and maintenance of the leachate treatment plant.

Class Summary

This class is the first level in the Boroughs three level Wastewater Operations series. Incumbents are responsible for providing assistance in the operation and maintenance of the leachate treatment plant and related equipment to assure safe and proper treatment of leachate.

• ESSENTIAL DUTIES:** This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

• Contributes to the efficient and proper operation of the leachate treatment plant(s).
• Participates in monitoring and operating technologically complex plant control systems and process instrumentation.
• Monitors the proper operation of pumps, blowers, chemical equipment and controls of the treatment plant.
• Assists in compiling information for reports for regulatory agencies by recording readings and test results.
• Performs maintenance and repair of treatment plant facilities and equipment and documents and maintains logbooks on service and maintenance activities.
• Conducts laboratory tests and maintains thorough and accurate records of test results.
• Operates a variety of equipment, including belt press, forklift, screens, chemical manufacturing and feed systems, pump stations, computer control systems, and other applicable equipment.
• Serves as a back-up and assists landfill staff as needed in performing Baler Operator activities.
• Responds to call-outs, alarms, and other after hours or weekend plant needs or when scheduled for on call status.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

• TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:** High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of equipment operator and maintenance experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
• LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:** State of Alaska Drivers License.
